Municipal Lands

Municipal land refers to properties that are owned, managed, or regulated by the local government. This includes road allowances, municipal reserves, and municipal agricultural parcels.

Undeveloped Road Allowances

A road allowance is a parcel of land that could be developed into a public road if needed in the future. These lands are owned by the Province of Alberta but are managed under the care and control of municipalities. The license holder is not granted exclusive use of the undeveloped road allowance and may not restrict access.

Municipal Parcels

Purchasing Municipal Lands 

Foothills County is not currently accepting applications to purchase municipally owned land.

Mowing a Municipal Reserve Parcel 

This program is intended for residents who wish to help maintain County‑owned land near their property. It authorizes participating residents to perform mowing on approved parcels. Please note that no mowing may take place until the site inspection and participation form has been completed. 

Licensing Municipal Lands 

Municipal Parcels are owned by the County and may be authorized for license with Council approval. Please see the information sheet for additional information & process.
