Voter Eligibility
You are eligible to vote if you can provide authorized identification which shows that you are:
- At least 18 years old, and
- A Canadian citizen, and
- A resident of Foothills County on Election Day, and
- Show proper identification (as outlined below)
Voter ID
Voter ID is required prior to voting, to prove both your identity and your place of residence. If you have successfully registered to vote in time to appear on the 2025 Foothills County Permanent Elector Register, your ID is still required to prove your identity.
You must sign an Elector Register form, stating that you are an eligible voter, that you have provided ID, selecting your status on the Permanent Electors Register, and identifying which ballots you wish to take. The Deputy Returning Officers will assist you with this form and then present you with your ballots.
You will need to provide one (1) piece of government-issued identification that contains your photograph, full name AND your address, such as an Alberta Driver’s Licence or Identification Card.
If you do not have government-issued ID, you will need to show two (2) pieces of identification:
- Both pieces of ID must contain your full name, and
- At least one of those pieces of ID must also show your current address.
ID containing your full name:
- Alberta Health Care Card
- Library Card
- Student Identification Card
ID showing your full name and current address:
- Bank or Credit Card Statement
- Income Tax Assessment
- Insurance Policy Certificate or Statement
- Personal Cheque
- Property Tax Assessment or Evaluation Notice
- Residential Lease or Sublease
- Statement of government benefits (e.g. employment insurance, old-age security, social assistance, disability support, or child tax benefit)
- Utility Bill (electric, gas, water, cable, telephone, Internet)
- Vehicle Ownership or Registration Certificate
