It is with great sadness that Foothills County acknowledges the passing of former Councillor Gerrit Top on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Gerrit served the County as Councillor for Division 1 for nine years. Gerrit was first elected in 1995 and served until 2004. Although he sat on almost every Committee, he was particularly interested in the ones related to Agriculture and Community Services. In 1995 the Village of Cayley dissolved, and in 1998 the Village of Blackie dissolved, and they became part of Division 1. Gerrit became their elected representative and worked hard with Council to make substantial improvements to both roads and utilities within the Hamlets. Foothills County Council and staff wish to convey their heartfelt condolences to Gerrit’s family and are grateful for his years of service.
