    Direct Control District #2 Project Engagement

    As part of the “Red Tape Reduction” initiative, the County is proposing the redesignation of Direct Control District #2 lands In the Highway 2A industrial corridor to an existing land use district in the current Land Use Bylaw, in accordance with the Highway 2A Industrial Area Structure Plan.

    The Direct Control District #2 lands were noted as the first priority for the Direct Control redesignations.

    June 9, 2021, Council directed administration to proceed with public engagement for the purpose of obtaining feedback from stakeholders on the proposed land use redesignation of the Direct Control District #2 land.

    The area subject to this review and redesignation is the Direct Control District #2 lands within the Highway 2A Industrial Corridor.

    Flood Mitigation Program for Lower Highwood

    Foothills County continues to advocate for landowners on the Lower Highwood River downstream from the Town of High River who have been negatively impacted by mitigation work that was constructed to protect the Town.

    On November 10, 2021 County staff provided Council with an update on the Lower Highwood Flood Mitigation Program and sent out letters to impacted landowners.   • Avenue of Trees 2021

    Avenue of Trees 2021

    Foothills County is honoured to participate in the Sheep River Health Trust's annual Avenue of Trees. This marks our 8th entry into the event.

    Our tree theme for 2021 is: “Radiance Shines Through the Roads Less Traveled in the Foothills." The Foothills is a balance of Growth & Reflection; Lively, Radiant and Lush. This tree received the Holiday Elegance ribbon for the third year in a row.

    Trees are being sold by online auction here.

    The County tree is also up for Fan Favourite. Visit the Sheep River Health Trust on social media to "like" our tree, or visit in-person at the Best Western Inn and Suites in Okotoks.

    Bidding will close on Dec. 15.

    Foothills County continues to annually support the Sheep River Health Trust, by providing financial support to give back into Health & Wellness initiatives throughout the community.

    Last year more than $21,000 was raised for the Sheep River Health Trust through Avenue of Trees. All monies raised will stay in Okotoks, Black Diamond, Turner Valley, Longview, Millarville and Priddis areas.

Annual Christmas Family Silent Auction

Foothills County Council & Staff are asking for your help and generosity. For over 23 years we have been helping local families requiring a hand-up at Christmas time. Council , staff and generous local business' from Foothills County and area come together to raise funds for our annual Christmas Family Silent Auction. Due to Covid-19, we are once again having our silent auction available online.

Our program has made a tremendous impact on families who have received support from us in the past. This year more than ever, the need is great. With your help, we would like to provide support to fifteen families with gifts and gift cards to ensure that everyone has a brighter Christmas, especially with the current struggle families are facing.

New Display at Fish Creek Ranch Bulk FIll

November 23, 2021

Foothills County has added a display to the Fish Creek Ranch Bulk Fill Station.

Customer’s purchasing water from the bulk fill now have ready available information displayed.

Newly added features include the following:

  • Selection of low flow (6 liters per second) and high flow (11 liters per second) this was added to serve customers filling small tanks and large trucks.
  • Cost of water per cubic meter.
  • Total available cubic meters or total imperial gallons.
  • Chlorine residual and PH of the water.

Proposed Amendments to the Fee Bylaw 73/2021

The Council of Foothills County is considering amending the Fee Schedule Bylaw 73/2021, which establishes the fees, rates and charges for a variety of municipal services. The Council of Foothills County will hold a Public Meeting regarding the proposed amendments to Fee Bylaw 73/2021 on Wednesday, December 8th, 2021 at 1:30 pm.
